TRANSLATION

What is the translator’s way?
What are his/her reflections?
Those are the questions that serve to define, for me, not only the craft but the path to take. In the end, the purpose is not always a deeper knowledge of languages, but rather to be able to ponder the weight of words not only to compose the best version but an equilibrated text. All texts have a certain harmony inside, a certain music and the translation creates a variation on the same theme. Whichever the discipline, the result is the recreation of the text of origin, respecting the specific weight of the parts that composes it. The goal intended is transparency between the origin and the destination, a proper equivalence.
In each stage of the process, there are some concepts that determine it.
Consciousness
The conscience of two contexts. The need to go deeper. We translate a period, not only an author; behind him there is not only a personality with its complexities, but the expression of a certain culture. The responsibility, therefore, entails the development of a vision and a sensibility, within a broader knowledge of where the work comes from.
Quality
Being conscious of work, of its different stages, of the need to continually verify. The error can always be a possibility, but it’s actually through the latent “imperfection” of all texts that we can find the most appropriate word.
Client
Sometimes the author, but always the valid intermediary. The client offers the general guidelines to be followed in the particular work. It is the personal contact that allows us to understand the special requirements so that the result should be, in every sense, including in the financial field, completely satisfying.
Threshold
The Hispanic world, the Spanish language is the origin in my case, and it is the means to make connection with other languages. Other worlds. This departure is in a certain way a political movement that implies going beyond different frontiers to transform the perspective of the reader: something considered unusual, singular or “foreign” becomes familiar and close.
